I am back again with another bake! This one is dedicated to all my chocolate orange lovers out there, as some of you may know this has to be one of my favourite types of chocolate.
This recipe is the perfect replacement for that tea and biscuit combo, instead get munching on a slice of this! So, please take a read and if you give this recipe a go tag me in your photos on Instagram- @ellahamiltonxo.
Serves 8 (Probably 10 if you don't live in my household!)
You will need..
Large mixing bowl
200g caster sugar
200g self raising flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
140g of soften butter
150g chocolate of choice (I used a mixture of dark and milk)
Zest of 1 orange
A dash of orange extract (not essential, but adds more flavour)
3 tbsp of orange juice
Before you begin pre heat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius
You want to start by creaming together your butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl.
Next add your eggs, flour and baking powder and whisk until fully combined.
In a separate bowl, grate in your orange zest adding both your orange juice and orange extract if you have some to hand.
Add your orange concoction to the rest of the mixture and whisk until fully combined. By this point I could smell the orange tanginess coming from the mixture- Devine.
Lastly, add your milk to ensure you get the right consistency for your mixture and pour into a greased loaf tin. Looking something like this...
Now, all you have to do is bake for at least 55minutes. I am not one for waiting that long and tend to check it with a skewer from about 40minutes onwards!
Whilst your cake is cooking you can get started on the chocolate covering.
6. Melt your chocolate in a glass bowl over a hot pan of water, continuously stirring until you a left with smooth melted chocolate.
7. Once your cake is ready, you can add your chocolate coating immediately as it is quite thick anyway, the heat will allow you to spread it easily over the top of the cake. And there you have it, your perfect tea and cake combination.
